Jim Fisher is a graduate of Vanderbilt University Law School and a former FBI agent (1966-1972). He taught criminal investigation, criminal law, and forensic science at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania from 1975 to 2004. He is an active public speaker and has written seven nonfiction books, five currently in print. In 1999 and 2000 he helped a cold-case investigative colleague gather evidence that resulted in the arrest and conviction of a pedophile who had been molesting elementary school boys since 1967. His investigation of a 1958 homicide that led to the false conviction and incarceration of a 13-year-old boy caused the governor of Pennsylvania to grant this victim, some thirty-three years after the crime, a full pardon. His 1998 and 1999 ground-breaking study of bogus literary agents, book doctors, and vanity publishers, The Fisher Report, helped and informed hundreds of aspiring writers. He has been interviewed on numerous national television and radio shows, and has been nominated twice for the Mystery Writers of America's Edgar Allen Poe Award.
